Last Sunrise

One of the coolest things do do in the summer in Verbier is to go and see the sunrise from the top of Mont Fort. The experience is an emotional and almost spiritual occasion. Musicians play alpenhorns just as the sun begins to burst its rays of light past the first obstacle on its path. You can feel the warmth of the sun immediately as the silhouettes of the alpine ridge lines become crisper.

Oil on canvas painting of heavy purple storm clouds beginning to envelope the mountains below. One of Laura Porteous' original landscape artworks.

Purple Claws

This is a recounting of a high pressured snow storm. The clouds are descending into the valley, clawing at the icy peaks below, before they heavily enshroud them. The purple colours are symbolic of the lively but menacing beast of the storm above, moving in on its prey.

Dramatic skyscape over a lower alpine mountain in Switzerland. Lots of clouds and light shining through. Oil on canvas painting with lots of blues and purples. One of Laura Porteous' original landscape artworks.

Blue Catogne

An ethereal sight one day looking over to France from Verbier. Cold light and dark shadows enshroud the mountains below. Another hyper colour painting that serves you a calming and hopeful atmosphere.

Inversion from Mont Fort

One of Laura Porteous' original oil on canvas landscape paintings. Dents du midi and Pierre Avoi standing proud above a sea of cloud.

A rare but spectacular sight to behold. At a high enough altitude, Mont Fort is usually above a cloud inversion and here there is the addition of Verbier’s familiar proud rock, Pierre Avoi. Palette knife and brush techniques perfectly combine to execute the creation of textures in the scene.

Amalfi Sunset

One of Laura Porteous' original landscape artworks.

The colours in this painting are incredibly satisfying. The fiery palette of the sky with the contrasting blues make a striking aesthetic. The mildly textured sea was created with a palette-knife as well. The direction of view of the featured Amalfi Coast line is from the lesser known town of Paestum.

This painting is among the more affordable, smaller artworks in the sky-scapes collection.
